Cornerstone announces Woodstock Community of Care in
partnership with First Baptist Church of Woodstock
August 2008 - In January 2008, Dr. Johnny M. Hunt, pastor of
First Baptist Church of Woodstock (FBCW) and president of the
Southern Baptist Convention, challenged his church to solve the
problem of foster care in Cherokee County. As the church worked to
develop a foster care ministry, God brought together Cornerstone
and FBCW, and the church leadership immediately realized a natural
fit.
On August 17, 2008, the church announced the formation of the
Woodstock Community of Care with a hope to have 50 families with
children placed by the end of 2008. Pastor Craig Ormsby is
responsible for the foster care ministry, and lay leaders Sandy and
Chuck Mingonet serve as coordinators and advocates of the program
at First Baptist Woodstock. FBCW has also provided office space to
Cornerstone staff for the establishment of our Cherokee County
offices.
November 2008 Update:
FBCW experienced an overwhelming response from the local church
congregation.
In the first 90 days of its new foster care ministry, FBCW has
had:
• 288 people, representing 194 families, attended a two-hour
orientation; and
• 87 families completed an 18-hour intensive weekend training
retreat.
The church is well on its way to reaching its 2008 goals.
